Black History Month events planned

Jones has some exciting events planned in February to mark Black History Month. Here’s what’s on tap:

Feb 1-28: Black History Trivia

Black History Trivia questions will be asked each day during morning announcements. The class that submits the most correct answers each week will receive a popcorn/movie party the following week. Therefore, each class has four chances to win!

Feb. 1-6: Door Decorating Contest

Doors must be student created. In other words … parents should not be coming up with and/or executing ideas. One classroom per grade will earn no homework for one week or extra recess outside as the prize. Since the students will directly benefit, they need to be involved in the production/completion of the project. Judging will take place on Feb. 8.

Note: Please don’t spend money on this project. (Parents should not be funding this effort!) The beauty will lie in the student’s hard work, ingenuity, and work from the heart!

Friday, Feb. 15: Kenya Safari Acrobats Assembly

This is one of those awesome opportunities that’s paid for by your donation to the PTA … whether it’s from the Jagathon contribution or a Spirit Night event. We’re thrilled to bring this exciting troupe to Jones!

Thursdays in February: Spirit Days

Students can pay tribute to an African American person of impact, by participating in Spirit Days. Students may dress up as …

Feb. 7: An African-American athlete.

Feb. 14: An African-American entertainer.

Feb. 21: An African-American inventor.

Feb. 28: Black History Month march. *Makeup date is March 7.
